If your guest remember anything about your wedding it’s going to be your wedding cake! It’s the yummiest piece of decoration at your wedding! Here is a quick list of things to take into consideration when picking the wedding cake of your dreams.
1. The Attendees
First things first, how many people will be attending your wedding? Wedding cakes are usually priced per serving. In Renaissances case our wedding cakes prices start at $ 7.00 per serving. Therefore, if you want a cake that all of your guests will get a taste of consider how many will be attending as well as your budget. Take a look at the picture below for how many servings each tier a wedding cake can have.
2. Square or Round?
This small detail will determine how many slices you can get out of your wedding cake, because remember, wedding cakes are usually prices per serving!
3. Fondant or Buttercream?
After considering how many attendees will be at your wedding you must choose the finish on your cake! Do you like the creaminess of buttercream or do you like the smooth texture or fondant? Perhaps you prefer a poured chocolate ganache? Keep in mind that fondant and chocolate is usually more expensive. In our bakery’s case, fondant is one dollar more/ per person serving. On the contrary, buttercream usually the least expensive option and is rich, creamy, can have different flavors incorporated into it, and last but not least much more DELICIOUS. Take a look at our gallery for some of our beautiful fondant & buttercream cake designs.
4. Think about the weather!
If you're having an outdoor wedding during the summer, you should definitely stay away from buttercream and chocolate because these melt in the heat. If you are considering a buttercream cake during the hot days, make sure you are indoors with air conditioning or even consider a fondant-covered cake, which holds up much better against heat!
5. Try some new flavors!
Your cake should look good, and taste even better! Book a tasting with your wedding cake baker and try all of the flavors! Also ask your baker about seasonal flavors that will become available around the time of your wedding. Personally, I recommend Beth’s Chocolate Raspberry Crush Cake. I cant even explain how well the fresh raspberries go with the rich dark chocolate cake and ganache made from imported French and Belgium chocolate!
6. Decorations and Details?
When it comes to decorations, this is where the price of your cake begins to rise. Many additions to your wedding cake will increase the price depending on the complexity of the design and time it takes to execute it. Sugar paste flowers and other gum paste decorations are made by hand and therefore cost more. The most inexpensive option fresh flowers. Consider decorating your cake with the same flowers as your bouquet. Other incidentals that are important to consider are your cake pedestal. This is the stand that sits under your cake and raises it high for better viewing and adds to your design. This can range from a simply elegant white ceramic design or an ornate silver scrolled platform. Whichever option you decide if you have the right baker, you wedding cake will come out looking beautiful!
Our last advice is to not be afraid to ask your baker any questions that you have or tell them what exactly your vision is! Bring in colors, photo examples, and everything you think your baker will need to make the wedding cake of your dreams. Beth will make sure your wedding cake dreams come true on your budget and is delivered to you on time wherever you are in the Bay Area. Best of luck!
